Sunway University new university building

Bandar Sunway, January 20, 2012 – Sunway University has added yet another step in its growth story with a groundbreaking ceremony for its new academic building (“the new university building”) today. The ceremony was presided over by the guest of honor, YB Dato ‘Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education, who signed a plaque commemorating the event.

The groundbreaking ceremony was broadcast live from the site of the new building of the Hall Multi-Purpose University, where he was attended by Minister of Higher Education, Tan Sri Dato ‘Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah , AO, Chancellor of the University Sunway and guests.

With the new building University, Sunway University continues its commitment to care for its community of students and staff, ensuring that its facilities meet the changing needs of its growing population of the provision of high quality, integrated facilities on campus. The new University building, which will be completed in 2014, is the tower block a12 storeys 880,000 square feet of space that can accommodate 9,000 undergraduate and graduate. The building with a cost of proposed construction of RM350 million will have an environmentally friendly design features with energy and water savings and allow sufficient natural lighting and ventilation systems that promote sustainability and a greener environment. In recognition of its eco-design, the University will be seeking to reach the Singapore BCA and Certification Green Building Index for the New University building.

The new University building is part of a fiscal expansion large scale Sunway began serving his academic community. The fiscal expansion includes a new graduate center, modeled on the Harvard Business School, and is nearing completion in the first half of this year.

With a history dating back to 1987 when he was still known as Sunway College, Sunway University has prospered, being upgraded from University College status in August 2004 and obtained university status in 2011. Over the years, Sunway has actively sought to establish partnerships with foreign universities and institutions of further expanding the breadth and depth of education they offer.
