We recognise that leaders come in many forms with varied past experiences, so there is no one profile of an “ideal” Teach For Malaysia applicant. Ultimately, we look for individuals who have achieved results and demonstrated a range of leadership qualities, because we know these individuals will lead children growing up in high-need communities to success.

In our assessment of applicants, we look for evidence of:

  • Commitment to Teach For Malaysia’s mission and goals as well as commitment to making a long-term impact in Malaysia’s education sector;
  • Ability to adeptly communicate, persuade and motivate others, to resolve conflicts in challenging environments and to interact proficiently in both English and Bahasa Malaysia;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking and creativity;
