Interior Design Students Boot it on at the idS Design Boot Camp 2011!

The One Academy Interior Design students had the most exciting & creative design session during their 2-day participation at the idS Design Boot Camp 2011 held at The One Academy.

The idS Boot Camp was hosted by idS magazine event management with an initiative to tap into the vast young minds of aspiring interior designers in Malaysia. With its knowledge in the trade, the idS magazine was an effort published by TS Exim Sdn. Bhd. The boot camp received many participants from The One Academy and students from other colleges as well.

During the boot camp, students experienced fun indoor and outdoor sessions such as sharing, mini-contests, interactive game sessions, visitations, site-recces and practical skill coaching. To elevate the importance of the event, the idS Design Boot Camp 2011 is recognised and endorsed by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. At day one, students met with Dickie Ong, a renowned Senior Interior designer who has 20 years of working experience in the architectural and interior designing industry of numerous projects overseas and locally. His sharing entitled ‘The Changing Face of Design’ along with some mini-games & activities which made learning fun!

There was also a sharing by Kazuo Yasumatsu, known as 1st Class architect & interior designer with 30 over years of experience and also the experienced interior designer for high-end department stores such as SOGO, Japan. Students learned the wave of design trends in Asia Pacific, design concerning space and senior citizens and having a balanced design in interior & architecture. The day ended with a round of group discussions for students to recap and reapply what they’ve learned.

Day two was anticipated by the students as the day begin with a sharing entitled ‘World of Hospitality & Branding in Design’ by Lai Siew Hong, a managing director of Blu Water Studio and the top speaker of Design Boot Camp 2010.

A visitation to VIVA Home Mall, Kuala Lumpur was included as a case study session for students. The case study lesson was applied in students’ final assessment which includes research, project development and presentation in groups after the visitation. The organisers awarded the group that gave the best presentation which went to The One Academy interior design students; Amanda Chai, Ong Jovie, Bong Kei Man, Low Zhy Xin, Tan See Yeng & Chew Wen Jun who received the Best Team Performance title for their effort.
